Il bisogno di focalizzare l avvenimento più importante di quella battaglia, estesa dalla riva del Mar Ligure alla Garfagnana, mi ha indotto a p…ubblicarlo. Il combattimento che portò alla presa di Monte Folgorito fu la chiave di volta dell offensiva statunitense nel settore di fronte tra la Versilia e le Apuane. Occupato il Monte Folgorito ed accecato così l occhio vitale delle artiglierie tedesche, non solo si mise in crisi l artiglieria germanica ma venne a cadere per manovra il triangolo della morte, quel baluardo naturale costituito dalle montagne ad est di Massa, dal Lago di Porta e dal Fiume Versilia che bloccano l accesso a nord ad una truppa avanzante; questo succede da secoli e si ripeté puntualmente nel XX secolo. A differenza del passato, nel 1945 la tecnologia moderna rese ancora più letale questo bastione difensivo, arricchito da estesi campi minati, trincee, reticolati, bunker, posizioni di artiglieria e armi leggere ed altre micidiali opere difensive.
