Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fine. 1st Edition. University of Illinois Press, Urbana, IL. 2002. Hardcover. First Printing by Line Number. Inscribed by the editor on the half title page. Book is tight, square, and unmarked. Book Condition: Fine. DJ: Fine. Black cloth boards and spine with bright blue lettering on the spine. 275 pp 8vo. This book collects for the first time all of Frank Marshall Davis's extant published poems as well as his known previously unpublished work. This volume recovers the rich variety of Davis's poetic expression, much of it informed by his political convictions and by his multifaceted work as a journalist. The editor examines both Davis's poetry and his politics, presenting a subtle portrait of a complex writer devoted to exposing discriminatory practices and reaffirming the humanity of the common people. A clean very presentable copy. Inscribed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. First edition. Tall octavo. 83, [2]pp. Black cloth decorated and titled in silver. Cover decoration by artist Calvin Brazelton. Slightest rubbing at corners, fine. Signed on the title page: "Frank Marshall Davis. December 3, 1940." Additionally Inscribed by the author on the previous page referencing the then current upheaval in the world: "As a writer and as a member of a minority group, it is my wish that this thin tome will do its share toward helping other minority writers flee from persecution to these comparatively safe American shores. F.M.D. 1940." The first of the author's three volumes of poetry. Marshall, a left-wing poet and journalist began his career in Chicago in 1927 during the Great Migration, and later moved to Hawaii, where he was friends with the grandfather of Barack Obama, who mentions him in his autobiography, *Dreams From My Father*. A later reprint exists and is uncommon; this first edition is exceptionally so, especially signed and with a substantive inscription.
