Shortly after the Civil War, Samuel and Margaret Myers and three of their seven living children migrated from Fairbanks, Sullivan County, Indiana, to Vernon County, Missouri. The correspondence between the Missouri and Indiana branches of the family had to do with the harsh economic conditions in the semi-frontier area, the grasshopper visitation of the mid-1870's, and the health of the ailing Samuel and their crippled son, Milton. The principal recipients were Maggie Myers Harris and Mary Myers Davis, two of the three Myers children who remained in Sullivan County. Part II, covers the period 1879-1895, and is concerned primarily with the three Myers children who went west within five years of Samuel's death, settling in Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska.…
