Between April 1996 and April 1998, artist Diana Wege visited 24 national lands and Nature Conservancy properties across the United States, from Alaska to Florida, Vermont to New Mexico. Her intent was to celebrate the rich landscapes that have been preserved, and to convey the American love of wild places. Land America Leaves Wild reproduces 18 four-panel paintings created by Wege in lavish full color facing gatefold reproductions. Her paintings help us to see these places with freshness, excitement, and awe. Wege's artistic power communicates not only the inherent aesthetic appeal of these places, but also the power nature holds over our emotions and imagination. The result is not just a celebration of the stunning diversity of wild lands, but also a tribute to Americans for the esteem in which they hold their wilderness.
