In part: "I wanted to write and say "Congratulations" on completing one of the most outstanding careers ever in the history of aviation and space flight. By the way, there is life after NASA, and it can be pretty good!" Eisele served as command module pilot for the Apollo 7 mission in 1968. His friend and fellow Astronaut, Deke Slayton overcame the odds of a medical diagnosis that took him off flight duty and returned after several years of working for the betterment of NASA in Astronaut and Flight operations.
