Adults have kept appreciation alive while the nurseries have been distracted by ever-increasing diversions - mecahnical, iterary, and artistic. The truth is that Lear's nonsense drawings and verses offer plenty of scope for adult appreciation, possibly for a wider and deeper appreciation that they have yet recieved.
