A nice later printing of a classic. See ALB's offering of the true first edition of this book. This is NOT a Library copy or a remainder. Pages are clean and bright; Front cover is cracked but binding is firm. Front board is cracked but pages are well attached. There is children writing on the FEP and are light other scribbles. No writing on interior pages noted. Illustrated covered boards are colorful but show light rubbing and edge wear. Corners are lightly bumped. This book was NOT issued with a DJ so covers have borne the bulk of the shelf wear of its 40+ years of life.

Crayon scribbles on isnide of front cover, fep, bep, and a few throughout the book. A few tears on pages. Last page yellowed.

Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Lenski, Lois ; Eulalie (illustrator). Early Printing. This collection of Mother Goose rhymes are illustrated both in color and B&W by two well known illustrators of the period - Eulalie and Lois Lenski. Lois Lenski was a Newbery Medal winning author for Strawberry Girl (1945). Eulalie was working with Platt and Munk from around 1921 and per one biographer, she did illustrations for Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses in 1952, which has went on to sell more than 2 million copies. Interior pages are bright but are soiled randomly throughout from "grubby little fingers". One page and end papers has been scribbled on in pencil and paste down end paper has previous owner name. Luckily the full page color illustrations are unmarred by any writing. A few pages have small closed tears and small chipping on bottom edge where pages would have been turned often. A few page have yellow tape remains. Red cloth covered boards are worn but the spine is in tact and binding is holding firm. NO lost pages. Pictorial illustration which is pasted down on front cover- is fully intact, colorful but rubbed & soiled.Corners are worn through. Oversize book approximately 10"W by 12" L. Rare to find a children's book that is 90+ years old, fully intact, colorful and readable after being having been so thoroughly enjoyed by little ones!

Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. circa 80 pages; illustrated gracefully in color by Wesley Dennis; there are twelve stories, each featuring a different animal; Book condition: contents approach VG, with owners last name, in ink, on the front fly; cover corners show wear, with three corners showing some board; spine extremeties a bit less wear ; there is a very attractive front cover paste-on of two horses heads; the rear cover looks as if a rear paste-on has been removed, the rear cover area is unattractive, with darker, and lighter areas where the top cover paper layer has been removed.

FEP is missing; End papers show light soil marks and foxing. This was a beloved and well read book. Binding is firm. Illustrated covered boards are colorful but show rubbing and edge wear. Corners are lightly bumped; top of spine is starting to split but is well attached. NO DJ. Page edges lightly browned. Book is in good condition given that book is 50+ years old. No DJ but book is protected from unnecessary handling in our closed shop. See pictures.

Condition is GOOD ; sides and ends of spine worn and parts missing, corners very worn, edges rubbed. Covers rubbed but with little soiling. Mother, in a pretty hand, had written children's poems in ink on ffep, title pg and copyright pg. Text otherwise very nice, with lovely, mostly full pg illus in very fresh colors. The alphabet at back has been colored with crayons ( within the lines!) Children. RGR.

This edition features vivid artwork printed on thick, high-quality early Platt & Munk paper, as well as charming illustrated blue-ink endpapers showing a parade of familiar nursery characters. A well-preserved example of an increasingly scarce pre-war issue. Condition: Near Fine. Original blue cloth pictorial boards are clean and bright with strong black stamping and minimal shelfwear. Spine ends lightly pushed; corners very gently rubbed. Interior clean and crisp with excellent color throughout; no writing or markings. Binding tight and sound. Endpapers fresh with only mild toning at edges. A notably well-kept copy of an edition often found heavily worn. Edition/Printing Diagnostics: Dual copyright dates 1932 and 1938, with no later renewals - a hallmark of the 1938 first edition sheets. Binding in blue pictorial cloth with black stamping, the correct first-issue format. The blue-ink pictorial endpapers match known early Platt & Munk production from 1938-1940; later reprints used cheaper or monochrome endpapers. Typography, paper stock, and illustration style are consistent with pre-WWII printings and differ from later 1940s-1970s versions. While Platt & Munk did not print explicit edition statements, all bibliographic and physical evidence supports First Edition / Early Printing (1938-1940).

A large format, deluxe edition, bound in orange cloth with an illustrated front cover, printed on high quality glossy paper. Very uncommon in dustjacket, and although the dj has some tears and some loss of paper on the ends of the spine, it has protected the book so the covers are still bright and beautiful. (the same painting of two horses' heads is on both the cover and the dustjacket.) Fine in good only dust jacket. (pc, inscription on both the dj flap and book, wear to dj.).
