Among the figures profiled in the rear of the book are Samuel Parker, Henry Harmon Spalding, William H. Gray, Asa Bowen Smith, Elkanah Walker, Cushing Eells, Cornelius Rogers, Edwin Oscar Hall, and Andrew Rogers.Published two years after the death of the author, he had by then accepted some of the facts presented by Henry Spalding, in his Senate Document memorializing the Whitman-Saved-Oregon legend, as apocrypha. SOLIDAY I, 779. Dust jacket is now preserved in a clear, removable archival protector.

Head and foot of spine worn down, and the spine itself is darkened. Two tiny worn-through spots along the outer hinge joining the spine and front cover. The front endpaper is splitting along the gutter, but the hinge itself is holding and the binding is secure for normal handling. Old owner's inscription in front, dated 1895. Light foxing on some pages, but text unmarked. A scarce account of Protestant missionary work among the Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest. Illustrated with occasional black and white plates.

A prefatory note indicates that a hymn has been added in each of the Skokomish, Nisqually and Clallam languages, along with a medley in the four languages. The text does not specifically indicate which hymns these are. Not in Pilling. OCLC 1006895459 (3 loc.) There are numerous OCLC listings for this title, identifying most as Internet references, but it is quite possible that some of the copies listed under these records are actual, not virtual, examples.
