His work ranges from highly detailed, realistic plant depictions to more abstract compositions. Petursson studied at the Reykjavik Art School 1974-1978, the Icelandic College of Art and Crafts, Reykjavik, 1976-1979, and then at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht, the Netherlands, where he graduated,1979-1981. He has exhibited at The Living Art Museum, the Reykjavik Art Museum, Museum Fodor in Amsterdam, and the Pori Art Museum in Finland. In 2006, he was awarded second prize at the Carnegie Art Award, with exhibitions held in Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki, Reykjavik, Copenhagen, and Nice. Includes eight pages of text, in side-by-side English and Icelandic, presenting Petursson's commentary on his life in art and artistic thought, plus a list of his solo exhibitions and installations, selected group exhibitions, bookworks, collective works, catalogues, collections and awards.
