Stanley Eichelbaum (1925-2003) San Francisco Bay Area journalist, chef, and restaurateur was a well known personality who was born & reared in Brooklyn, received his undergrad degree from CCNY, his masters from Columbia and went on to earn a certificat d'etudes from the Sorbonne, University of Paris, in 1949. Before moving to San Francisco in 1959, he worked as a fact-checker for the New Yorker magazine for nine years. A noted San Francisco journalist, Mr. Eichelbam was a theatre and film critic for the San Francisco Examiner for 19 years before earning a professional chef's degree from the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco and deciding to begin a second career as chef, restauranteur and food writer.
