Map of Saint Helena in Vol. 2, a couple 1/2" closed tears to margins. Map of ground plan of Longwood in vol. 3, 1/2" closed tear to margin. A vivid description of Napoleon's childhood, his military campaigns, his rise to power as the Emperor of France, and his eventual exile to Saint Helena. Also includes a detailed account of the conversations between Napoleon and the author during their time together on Saint Helena. Volumes 1-3 each have 400 pages, not including advertisements. Volume 4 has 426 pages, including index.

Signed bindings by Emile Rousselle with his small rubber stamp on the verso of the front marbled endpaper in each volume. Four volumes bound in eight with untrimmed edges. Extra illustrated with over 130 illustrations whereof some hand colored. First printed and published in French in the same year. Hibbert's Auction Catalogue lists on p246, #4497 the French edition which Lowndes p1314 attributes incorrectly to have been published in London followed with a comment that an English translation appeared in 1825. Light scattered foxing in areas otherwise a fresh clean set with only a few check marks in pencil in the index, in a very attractive binding.
