Livio Fanzaga in 1993 and 1994. To these has been added a final section which develops and synthesizes the main themes of the first two sections. Some adaptation was necessary in the transposition from oral to written form. The book is a commentary on two texts with a common subject, written almost a century ago. Both explore the manifestation of the Antichrist at the end of the world. This is an important theme in the context of Christian proclamation, for it has never ceased to evoke lively pastoral and doctrinal interest in the Church. While it is sometimes neglected in contemporary preaching, nevertheless, for many of the faithful it remains an object of particular fascination, prayer, curiosity and fear. The object of this book is not simply to illustrate the end of the world and the appearance of the Antichrist by reading two gripping books, one by the Russian author Soloviev, the other by an English Catholic, Benson. Apart from the delight of discovering two absorbing works of literature, the reader will have an opportunity to revisit and contemplate the Old and New Testaments and their descriptions of the eschatological conflict between God and His enemies. The broadcasts were accompanied by excerpts from various composers, which provide a form of musical commentary to accompany the subject matter. These included: "Dies Irae" in Gregorian chant; "Kyrie" from Joseph Haydn'sMissa inAngustiis; "Te Deum" of Joseph Haydn; "Dies Irae" of Giuseppe Verdi; "Ricordare Pie Iesu" from Luigi Perosi's Giudizio Universal.
