First edition. vi, 154pp., 2-page advertisment for another work by the author, and many black and white illustrations by Alan Wright within the text. George Edward Farrow (1862-1919) was a writer of childrne's books, best known for his 'Wallypug' series. The Mandarin's Kite is a fantasy tale which tells of the adventures of Cyril Deane and his young Chinese friend Tsu-foo, son of a Mandarin who lived next door. By accident, they go up on a gigantic kite, and reaching the Zodiac and the planet Pars, see many strange sights and hear many strange things. The book is bound in the original orange cloth covered bevelled boards with gold titling and an illustration on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling and light staining on the boards. There is a little damage to the cloth on the tips of the bottom corners and the spine ends are bumped with some damage to the cloth at the bottom of the spine and damage with a little loss at the top of the spine. The cloth on the spine edges is rubbed with a split of about 1/2" near the top of the front spine edge and two 1/2" splits and a larger split of about 3/4" on the rear spine edge. The contents are tight and clean with some browning and foxing to the endpapers. There is no inscription.
