Signed by the authors on the title page in silver pen. Clint Hill served as a Secret Service agent from 1958 to 1975. He notably protected five U.S. presidents: Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, and Gerald Ford. Hill gained public attention for his actions during the assassination of President Kennedy on November 22, 1963, when he climbed onto the back of the presidential limousine in an attempt to shield the President and First Lady. He received the Secret Service's highest honor, the Medal of Valor, for his bravery that day. Hill retired from the Secret Service in 1975 and later authored several books about his experiences. Previous ownership bookplate to front free endpaper, occasional passages highlighted in yellow. Hand-numbered by the author on the title page, this copy labeled "Number 391." Signed by the author above the limitation. An incredibly scarce example. Howard Thurman (1899-1981) was a prominent minister, academic, and civil rights leader of the 20th century. He served as dean of Rankin Chapel at Howard University from 1932-1944, then as dean of Marsh Chapel at Boston University from 1953-1965, where he delivered the sermons published here. Thurman's dedication to sharing the theology of radical nonviolence influenced many civil rights movement leaders, including Martin Luther King, Jr., who was mentored by Thurman while attending Boston University.
