The fourth & final issue of one of the most important literary magazine journals of the 1960s. More of a book than a magazine. Contains pieces by Charles Bukowski, Henry Miller, Allen Ginsberg, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Diane Di Prima, Denise Levertov, Lawrence Durrell, Gene Fowler, Robert Bly, Harold Norse, Jean Cocteau, amongst several others. Edited by Jon Edgar Webb. Associate editor is Louise "Gypsy Lou" Webb. Numerous illustrations & photographs throughout. With pen & ink portrait illustration by F. McBride bound in between pages 82-83. Includes THREE EXTRA related printed sheets laid in: The first is an advertising order sheet for this issue of The Outsider (with "None For Sale" over the ordering information for this stiff cover edition) & the verso with ordering details for Charles Bukowski's Crucifix in a Deathhand & Henry Miller's Order & Chaos Chez Hans Reichel (both which were published by Loujon Press); the second is a full-page sheet titled Editor's Bit, & Obit by editors Jon & Louise Webb which is reprinted from this same issue of The Outsider No. 4-5 (with some edgewear); & the third is a larger folded sheet reproducing a newspaper article by Ole Magazine Editor Dan Pavillard regarding flood damage to the Webb's home & printery while producing this issue. From the volume's spine: "A Continuing Documentation of Today's Directions in Poetry & Prose (Previously Unpublished)". The first page is printed with "Handset, mostly, & hand-bound at Loujon's Desert Workshop Printery, Arizona, USA, by Lou & Jon Webb, and the Ghost of an Indian". Followed by printed dedication page to Kenneth Patchen. This issue contains an unpaginated 46-page homage to Patchen with tributes from several contributors. With details of contributors & errata page at rear. The volume is printed on multi-coloured paper of varying stock. There were both hardcover & softcover copies issued. This is a SOFTCOVER copy. With b&w photographs to front & rear cover. Bound in publisher's original b&w pictorial wraps (paper over stiff card). Slight shelfwear to cover, mild marginal toning within & offset toning to the two pages where the extra items were laid in, otherwise a very nice clean tight solid softcover copy. Internally Near Fine. 191+ pp. RARE.
