Die Strategematicon libri III sind eine Sammlung militärischer Stratageme (Kriegslisten) aus der griechischen und römischen Geschichte, zum Gebrauch der Offiziere bestimmt. Ein viertes Buch, dessen Anlage und Stil sich vom Rest unterscheidet (zum Beispiel wird hier mehr Wert auf moralische Aspekte des Krieges gelegt), galt früher als Werk eines anderen Autors, wird heute aber als echtes Werk des Frontinus angesehen. Dieses über 1300 Jahre verschollene Werk wurde im 15. Jahrhundert durch den italienischen Humanismus wiederentdeckt. (Wikipedia). Gewicht in Gramm: 1000.

Bella legatura in tutta pergamena di primissimo '800 con corte falde, sguardie marmorizzate. Titoli in oro su doppio tassello (marocchino rosso e verde). Qualche capilettera xilografico, numerosissime grandi iniziali e piccole lettere guida. Carattere corsivo ed un poco di romano. Sobrio frontespizio con titolo disposto a doppio triangolo inverso, o cosiddetto piè di vaso, con nota tipografica a fondo pagina. Nota ripetuta al colophon. Titolo anticamente manoscritto sul taglio disopra. Brevi marginalia antichi alla carta B1, lieve impronta al margine bianco disotto di A3. Un'ottima copia, pulita e con bei margini. Terza edizione (1537, 1541 e 43) della traduzione italiana degli Stratagemata di Sesto Giulio Frontino a cura di Francesco Luci (o Francesco Lucio Durantino) e dedicata a Francesco Maria duca di Urbino e di Sora, al Prefetto di Roma ed al Senato veneziano. Rilegato. Zustand: buono. Un volume in-4°, cc. [4], 125, [5]. Legatura settecentesca in mezza pergamena e carta decorata a motivi floreali. Titolo manoscritto al dorso. Capilettera istoriati, testatine silografiche. Un alone nel margine esterno del primo fascicolo, qualche annotazione a matita, per il resto buon esemplare genuino. Nella sguardia del piatto posteriore si legge scritto da mano ottocentesca Litta Vimercati. Buon esemplare. Prima edizione del volgarizzamento degli Stratagemata di Frontino, raccolta di stratagemmi militari con indicazioni sul combattimento, sugli assedi e sulle tattiche belliche, ad opera di Marcantonio Gandino, dedicata a Giacomo Soranzo, generale da Mar della Repubblica di Venezia. Scrive il Gamba (Serie, 1405): «In questa stimabile opera, e rara, ad ogni capo succedono osservazioni tratte da' moderni storici, et havvi al fine un indice di coloro che dopo il Frontino hanno usato de' stratagemmi, raccolto dagl'istorici al Frontino posteriori». La versione dell'opera di Frontino procurò al Gandino, appartenente a una nobile famiglia trevigiana, una notevole fama presso i contemporanei come esperto di architettura militare; egli fu anche perito nell'idraulica, nella meccanica e inventò la squadra mobile, strumento la cui invenzione fu attribuita erroneamente a Ottavio Fabris (cfr. DBI, s.v. Gandino Marcantonio).
