In 19321938, he was a research associate on several polar stations, including the first drifting ice station North Pole-1 (1937-1938). In 19381939, Yevgeny Fyodorov headed the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute. In 1938 he joined the All-Union Communist Party. In 1939-1947 and 19621974, he was in charge of the Soviet Weather Service.
