Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First edition. Octavo. 239, 12 (epilogue), [2 references] pp. Illustrated. Brown buckram with spine gilt. Small owner label on map front flyleaf. Pages edges foxed with a couple of tiny stains, endleaves lightly foxed, dozens of marginal inked checkmarks in the text, thus good only in a heavily foxed, near very good dust jacket with a quarter-sized stain on the cover panel. Inscribed by Gilman on the front blank in the year of publication. Revolutionary War book that also prints the "The Court-martial and Vindication of Marjor General Charles Lee." A flawed but certainly still readable copy.

Very Good condition in a Very Good dust jacket. NOT price clipped ($6.95). No chips. No creases. A bright, clean, square, tight copy. No owner's name or bookplate. No remainder mark. Illustrated with a map of the Jersey shore, 1776-1783, and drawings of the ship, its utensils and furniture, colonial buildings, harbor views, etc. From the Dust Jacket: "She was the topsail schooner BLAZING STAR, built in 1765 at the little hamlet of Blazing Star on Staten Island Sound, Near what is today Sewaren, New jersey. Dr. Gilman recapture's the ship's history, telling its story through the eyes of a farm boy who grew up at sea during the Revolutionary period. [As] the restrictions piled up on the Crown Colonies after 1765, BLAZING STAR became engaged in contraband and smuggling. With the stamp Act and the closure of the ports, it smuggled tea, glass, paper, cloth, and even men hunted by the Crown. [When] George Washington stopped at the Rahway Tavern on his way to take command of the army at Cambridge, the men of the BLAZING STAR offered their services, and the ship went forth as a privateer, making her place in history, bathed in blood and drenched in fire throughout the American Revolution." List of chapter notes/sources. Bibliography. The title on the Dust Jacket is slightly different: BLAZING STAR, A NEW JERSEY PRIVATEER IN THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION. Bound in the original black cloth, lettered in shiny silver on the spine. Keywords: Burlington County, New Jersey history. Revolutiony War. War for Independence. . First Edition. Hard Cover.
