The first covers the early wares of the Silla period, leading to the celadons and other monochrome wares of the Koryo ?dynasty (918-1392). The second period, which takes us from 1392 to the early twentieth century, was an unhappy one for the Korean people. The invasions of the Mongols in the thirteenth century led to a decline in prosperity and towards the end of the sixteenth century Korea was ravaged by the Japanese under the Sho?un Hideyoshi and entered into a state of extreme poverty.
