In den Warenkorb[African American Film] The Learning Tree Archive of 8 original vintage Silver Gelatin Photos used as Lobby Cards in movie theaters. Warner Bros. 1969. All measure about 8" x 10" in black and white. The Learning Tree was the first feature film by an African American director to be financed by a major Hollywood studio, Warner Bros. Director Gordon Parks, making his film debut, also wrote and produced the visually stunning and bittersweet, coming-of-age story about a year in the life of 14-year-old Newt Winger, born into a poor Black family in Kansas, who learns about love, fear, racial injustice, and immorality. The Kansas location sets The Learning Tree apart from many African Americanthemed films, which often take place in the South. No film before had so honored the legacy of the Exodusters, the tens of thousands of African Americans who, in the late nineteenth century, moved west of the Mississippi River, primarily to Kansasamong them Parks's ancestors. Archive features stills from the movie including from the courtroom drama sequence, from behind the prison bars, and of the picturesque Kansas locations including a young Kyle Johnson in the fields, with a piece of grass resting in his mouth. Star Kyle Johnson is featured in several photos as well as Alex Clarke, Estelle Evans and Mira Waters. All have the title of the film, production credits, and Warner Bros. copyright in the lower white margin. Prior to being one of the most prominent black directors, Parks was a photographer who photographed the Tuskegee Airmen and other street photography in Chicago. He earned major recognition for documenting Harlem for Life Magazine. Archive is in very good condition.
