Pages and binding are presentable with no major defects. Minor issues present such as mild cracking, inscriptions, inserts, light foxing, tanning and thumb marking. Overall a good condition item. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and sunning. Clipped jacket has heavy edgewear with areas of loss, heavy tears, chips, and creasing.

Three uncredited monochrome plates including the frontispiece. The front panel of the jacket has a two inch closed tear at the bottom left corner and two small chips out of the top and bottom edges. Chipping to the top corners and at the top of the spine. The rear panel is a little discoloured with small chips to the top and bottom edges and there is a small tear to the edge of the rear flap. The jacket illustration is by Reginald Mills. Interior illustrations by Gwenyth Waugh including a two-tone frontispiece. First printing.
