Mild foxing to tp, pages otherwise clean and bright. With the stamp of the Metropolitan Literary Institution, a London literary club/salon formed in 1823, on tp verso. An overall fine and attractive copy.

In a calf full binding with gilt lettering and tooling to the spine and extremities of boards. Externally, sound with edgewear, marking to boards and a small red stain to front board. Front joint is starting but remains firm. Internally, smart with age toning to pages with light scattered spotting throughout. Firmly bound. Good. book.

First and only edition, 8vo, pp. viii, 481; woodcut frontis, vignette title printed in red and black, a number of small engravings and engraved initials in the text; ca. 1900 full blue levant, gilt-ruled covers and gilt-panelled spine, a.e.g.; extremities rubbed, some cracking of spine ends, but a nice enough copy, internally fine. A collection of 956 books, priced, as catalogued by Acton Frederick Griffith for Thomas Park (1759-1834) the English antiquary and bibliographer, who, short of cash, had to sell the collection. The books found their way into the hands of Longman (et al.) who subsequently turned many of them over to auction. De Ricci (pp. 90-92) states that "the larger portion of the book describedÉwere subsequently brought together again in the Britwell Library.".
