This tune is from "Two Girls and a Sailor", an MGM Picture starring Van Johnson, June Allyson, Gloria DeHaven, Jose Iturbi, Jimmy Durante, Gracie Allen, Lena Horne. Includes both music and words. Edges are worn resulting in small tears and creases; the tail fold is torn about 1 1/2". The upper and middle page has a poke tear in the middle of the page but paper is still all attached. The lower page has a list of America's Favorite Songs at that time. 12"x9".

No Binding. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. This is only the front cover (and verso inside front cover) of the sheet music for Peggy Dear. However it is a singularly unique front cover because it is signed and inscribed by the bandleader. The inscription is at the bottom left corner of the cover. It reads: 'To My Hustling Pal George Noble, This was the first copy out. 1922. Best Wishes, Abe Lyman.' It's possible, though I have no idea, that this George Noble was the Blues pianist and singer who wrote and recorded Sissy Man Blues, The Seminole Blues, Dozing Blues, On My Death Bed, etc. As you can see, the condition of this front cover isn't terrific. Then again, it's nearly 100 years old. It has some discoloration and several chips and tears, all of which can be seen in the photograph I've provided. Within the gold 'seal' at the bottom of the page it says 'Richardson's Victrolas Gratonolas And Pianos Los Angeles.' From his Wikipedia page (which displays the same photograph as the one on this cover and which is titled Abe Lyman And His Ambassador Orchestra "California Favorite"): 'Abe Lyman (1897-1957) was a popular bandleader from the 1920s to the 1940s. He made recordings, appeared in films and provided the music for numerous radio shows, including Your Hit Parade. In Los Angeles, Abe's brother Mike Lyman opened the Sunset, a night club popular with such film stars as Mary Pickford, Norma Talmadge, Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and Harold Lloyd. When Abe's nine-piece band first played at the Sunset, it was a success, but the club closed after celebrities signed contracts stating they were not to be seen at clubs. For an engagement at the Cocoanut Grove in The Ambassador Hotel on April 1, 1922, Lyman added a violinist and saxophonist. Opening night drew a large crowd of 1500 guests, plus another 500 outside. In 1942, the Cocoanut Grove was the scene of the deadliest nightclub fire in history, claiming a total of 492 lives and injuring hundreds more. Lyman appeared on radio as early as 1922. His orchestra was broadcast from The Ambassador Hotel on KOG. After the band cut their first record under the local label Nordskog Records, they moved to Brunswick Records in 1923. There they made many recordings and were one of Brunswick's leading orchestras through 1935, when Lyman signed to Decca Records. In late 1937, Lyman signed with Victor where he was assigned their Bluebird label. He recorded prolifically for them through 1942. The Lyman Orchestra toured Europe in 1929, appearing at the Kit Cat Club and the Palladium in London and at the Moulin Rouge and the Perroquet in Paris. Lyman and his orchestra were featured in a number of early talkies, including Hold Everything (1930), Paramount on Parade (1930), Good News (1930) and Madam Satan (1930). In 1931, Abe Lyman and his orchestra recorded a number of soundtracks for the Merrie Melodies cartoon series. Notable musicians in the Lyman Orchestra included Ray Lopez, Gussie Mueller, and Orlando "Slim" Martin. During the 1930s, the Lyman Orchestra was heard regularly on such shows as Accordiana and Waltz Time every Friday evening and on NBC Coast to Coast. Under the name "Rose Blane" Lyman's wife was vocalist with the band during this period. Lyman and his orchestra sat in for Phil Harris on the Jack Benny program in 1943 when Harris served in the Merchant Marines.'. Inscribed by Author(s).
