Buch
Gebundene Ausgabe. Zustand: Gebraucht. (Französische Ausgabe ISBN 978-3-7757-3233-8) Ausstellung: Helsinki City Art Museum 23.9.2011-15.1.2012 Museé d' Orsay, Paris 7.2.-6.5.2012 Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf 2.6.-9.9.2012 Throughout his life Akseli Gallen-Kallela (1865-1931) challenged himself artistically in order to perfect a complete oeuvre comprising paintings, literature, prints, and architecture, motivating himself to flights of creativity, which constantly circled around the a core of paintings. Fascinated by the Finnish national epic, Kalevala, he portrayed his ancestral landscapes, culture, and people in a manner that went beyond the connection to his own country, revealing a sophisticated cosmopolite. Through his studies in Paris in the 1880s Gallen-Kallela developed close contacts to the European art scene; he participated in the 1900 World s Fair, was a member of Die Brücke, and showed his work at the 1914 Venice Biennial. This publication takes a candid look at his oeuvre, which long served the cause of Finnish patriotism. Besides the approximately seventy paintings, many furniture and textile designs from a period of over five decades are presented here.
