Over 7 years Dr.Hawkins slowly accumulated the evidence to paint a portrait of the remarkable woman who inspired Hardy?s poem "Concerning Agnes" and her life and times. Agnes, the daughter of General Augustus Pitt-Rivers was President of the Forward Suffrage Union, and spoke publicly in the Liberal cause. She later become Lady Grove, was one of the last of the ?grandes dames? whose world disintegrated in the 1914 - 18 war.
