Im Vorwort zu dem hier neu edierten Werk 'Der Sündenfall des Christentums' (Erstauflage NL 1928, dt. Übersetzung 1930) schreibt er: Ich will 'ernsthaft auseinandersetzen, dass Christentum und Krieg - jetzt mehr denn je - unversöhnliche Gegensätze sind. Ich will zwischen die christliche Lehre und die Ideologie des Krieges einen Keil treiben. Beide Systeme sind von der Geschichte zwangsweise zusammengeführt und werden jetzt in künstlicher Weise zusammengehalten. Ich will an das christliche Gewissen und an das von diesem Gewissen gelenkte vernünftige Denken appellieren und fragen, ob es nicht die höchste Zeit ist, dass Kirche und Christen sich prinzipiell gegen das ganze Kriegswesen auflehnen. . Es war eine verhängnisvolle Wendung in der Geistesgeschichte, die während und nach der Zeit von Kaiser Konstantin sich vollzog; durch das enge Bündnis zwischen Staat und Kirche ging das Bewusstsein des Gegensatzes zwischen Christentum und Krieg . verloren .; das schlimmste ist, dass man (seither) . ruhig Böses gut nennt. .
