    Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Hardcover first edition, published by Macmillan, 1933. This is the revised edition, revision edited by Blanche Jennings Thompson. Illustrated by Kate Seredy. 341 pages with Index and Appendix, 5-1/2" X 7-1/4". Dark Green-blue cloth covered boards with the title imprinted on the spine and an illustration of a Pegasus within a mustard yellow circle on the front board. One full color illustration by Kate Seredy on the frontispiece, black and white illustrations throughout the text, several of which are by Seredy. Kate Seredy was an author and illustrator, known for her own titles 'The Singing Tree', and 'The Good Master', as well as illustrating titles for other authors from the 30's through the early 60's. This title is the second of a three part series, some of the topis covered include; Parts of a Sentence, Variety of Expression, Double Negatives, Transitive Verbs, Punctuation, Synonyms, Personal Pronouns, and many others. Several excerpts from a variety of literature are included as examples throughout the text. There is also an extensive list of 'Titles Enjoyed By Children in the 5th and 6th Grade' as an Appendix. Former owner's name in green ink on the inside front paste-down, also includes the name of the school of the former owner written in the same green ink. No further writing besides that though. Boards are flat, corners are slightly bumped and show rubbing wear at the tips of the corners, and a dot of rubbing wear to the heel of the spine. No dust jacket. Sewn binding is tight and square. There is an ink smudge on the front board, on the top right side of the illustration, should be visible in the photo. Not a library discard. Attached photo is of the copy we have in our inventory.
