Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. No Jacket. Mott, Herb (illustrator). First Edition First Printing. Expanding on the author's successful Tom Corbett series, the short-lived Dig Allen series, which only published 6 titles, 1959-1962 (of which this is Book #2), sought to tap into the growing interest in space exploration among an American youth fired up by their young president J. F. Kennedy. It would become Book #250 in Golden Press' larger stable of series books for young boys & girls published 1950s-1960s, with orig. $1.00 price sticker intact to front cover. A FIRST EDITION, first printing, from 1960, this hardcover 12mo (5.75" x 7.50") has colorfully decorated matte paper over boards, in 188 pages with illustrations throughout by Herb Mott. Rarely seen preserved in this condition, which is Fine: exceptionally clean & bright, binding straight & strong, pages creamy white with moderate, age-appropriate tanning to edges. A hint of rubbing to extremities & former owner's name & address to recto of ffep are only flaws. Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. 1st Edition. ALFRED HITCHCOCK AND THE THREE INVESTIGATORS #28 - THE MYSTERY OF THE DEADLY DOUBLE by WILLIAM ARDEN, illustrated by Herb Mott, published by Random House, copyright 1978, First Printing (complete 1 - 9 0 numberline on copyright page), no references to Gibraltar Library Binding on rear cover, white endpapers, glossy boards. Book has no creased page corners, slight age darkening/dust soiling to outer page edges with age spot to right outer page edge (no foxing), no foxing to pages or endpapers, endpapers are clean and free from soiling or scotch tape marks, no tearing or splitting of page block from internal hinges (very very common defect with these early 3 investigator books - the glue on the page block is always separating from the boards - but a defect finally solved by the publisher with books #27 & #28 which FINALLY used a single piece endpaper), no former owner's markings or used bookseller stamps/stickers inside, no wear to board edges or board corners, almost no wear to spine tips, no peeling to glossy covering, very slight spine sun fading, no soiling or staining to boards, no bumped board corners. Note: This book comes protected by a removable clear Brodart book cover (cover is not taped to book - it can be simply slipped off if desired) which prevents further rubbing/soiling damage to the outer boards. Any white marks/glare lines in the photo are simply glare from the flatbed scanner reacting to this Brodart cover (and are not actual defects with the book). Overall a FINE-/N-FINE book of a first hardcover printing Three Investigators book. I have a number of other hardcover and paperback Three Investigator books up for sale.
