FFEP missing, front hinge loose, cracked open at p181, some fingermarks to pages. 23 stories and articles, scouting lore and outdoor adventuring. Just a reading copy.

Delicate b/w sketches illustrate this volume of poems for little children to be read aloud. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

Hardcover. Zustand: Fair. No date listed, 1910 best guess. Book has a slightly cocked spine, minimal shelfwear to edges and hinges, and light scuffing to the text block. Otherwise it is an attractive copy. Pages are unmarked, cover is attractive.

Illustrated with black and white drawings. 77 pp. Very good in papercovered boards with a colorful illustration on the front cover, blue spine and back cover (usual toning to pages, some rubbing to covers).

Hard Cover. Zustand: Fair. No Jacket. This book is in fair condition with mostly tight binding and clean text. The front cover is torn away from the staples but no pages are falling out. There is major wear and corner bumping. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Soft cover. Zustand: Fair. 1st Edition. Printed by R Clay & Sons. Stapled card covers. Covers are well worn, repaired split to lower spine. Pages are generally clean & sound 16 pages. Delightful colour illustrations.

Hardcover. Zustand: VG/VG. Colour frontis by Mary S Reeve and articles and black and white illustrations by various authors and artists. Book is chipped at spine tail and has dent along top rear edge. Name inked out on FFEP. Matching pictorial jacket has a number of small chips and tears and some small ink scribbles on front. Unusual to find these in jacket and which has ensured the boards stayed remarkably bright. unpaginated.

Backstrip missing. Edges rubbed and scuffed. binding is shaky, but nothing is loose. Has 18 color plates. The sub-title "Sunny days" appears on the front cover, The first item is the poem "Down by the sea." Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Green cloth; a pastedown illustration is on the spine and on the top end of the front board; the front board's illustration continues onto the bottom end with brown and black print on the cloth. 208 pages; 25 stories/articles; 8 color plates on dark green mat; numerous b & w illustrations and vignettes (on the page corners for each story). Illustrated endpapers have horses in brown ink. Frontal matter has browntone illustrations. The text block ends are dark green. Cover: ends of spine are softened; one corner is rubbed through to the board; front joint is faded; a third of the the back board has a stain; the illustrations have rubbed spots; shelf wear soiling. The endpapers are cracked over the hinges; the hinges have been repaired, but it is difficult to see the type of repair. Three of the color plates each have a 1/8 in. rubbed spot on an edge. Hardcover. Zustand: Good -. No Jacket. Anthology of 28 short stories and poetry sections featuring female heroines. Richly illustrated with B&W line drawings and (count not listed) full color plates. Pages are not numbered. 16 popular authors listed with some of the other works not attributed to any particular author. The illustrations are also from different people not identified except for their signatures on illustrations. Herbert Strang was the pseudonym of two English authors, George Herbert Ely (1866¿1958) and Charles James L'Estrange (1867¿1947). They specialized in writing adventure stories for boys, both historical and modern-day. Both men were staff members of Oxford University Press, which published their books, giving them a patina of social status and approval for the parents of their intended audience. That pseudonym was also employed for several series of anthologies, works "edited by Herbert Strang" that included The Big Book of School Stories for Boys and The Oxford Annual for Scouts. There was in addition an anthology series for girls by "Mrs. Herbert Strang", who was also given as the author of some adventure books for girls including one of the stories in this collection. The full color illustration pasted to the cover was the illustration from the story "Winona" attributed to Mrs. Herbert Stang. It is signed by the artist "G. Clark", who I assume, was George Merritt Clark (1853-1904) although nothing in the text confirms this assumption. Hardcover has decorated green paper boards with green cloth spine, white lettering on spine & front, and one of the full color illustrations pasted on front cover. Spine torn along rear, stabilized with tape. Text appears complete with the illustration matching the front cover torn out but laid in. Rear facing end-paper torn out, front facing end paper has prior owner name & info, but text tightly bound, clean and unmarked. Last page discolored from newsprint no longer there. No copyright, printing or edition dates. Other books for sale at this time date this edition to prior to 1920 based on inscriptions, awards laid-in, etc. 1900 is in line with fashions in illustrations and condition of this copy. A reprint edition circa 1934 has cloth boards & DJ. The edition for sale probably was not issued with a jacket. Of course, no ISBN, LCCN nor MSR. Prior Owner Name No Value.

Quarto-size, unpaginated but gathered in 4s, the last signature being T, so 320 pages, more or less, plus half-tone and colourtype plates; publisher's blue paper-covered boards backed in cloth of a similar shade with a colourtype plate laid on as front cover. Good. no writing, mark-up, labels or other defacememts, clean and pleasant; no jacket. Pictures show this actual book. UK orders are post-free.
