A very good, sound copy. $450. * This historic legal index, compiled anonymously, but attributed to the English advocate Jesse Addams, serves as the definitive primary guide to the official records and appellate case files handled by the High Court of Delegates over more than two centuries. Established under Henry VIII, the Delegates functioned as the supreme appellate tribunal in England and Wales for ecclesiastical, matrimonial, testamentary, and admiralty cases until its abolition in 1832. In this context, "processes" denotes the officially authenticated lower-court transcripts including promoter allegations, depositions, and physical exhibits like shipping manifests or land deeds sent up on appeal. This copy belonged to Augustus Gostling (1783-1849), a prominent civilian lawyer admitted to the exclusive Doctors' Commons, meaning he practiced directly before this court and likely utilized this exact catalog as an active, working administrative tool.
