Uncommon title. Very Good, but for small (centimeter deep) bookworm hole at upper fore-edge of pages, and small slit at mid spine in dustjacket with few slits at mid spine and some shallow edge chipping, dime sized chip at top rear panel.

Interesting signed presentation from Hogan on the front endpaper: "For Em Bowles Locker with all best wishes for a Merry Christmas, 25 December 1942 From her friend Pendleton Hogan." Em Bowles Locker was a Richmond, Virginia socialite and, when a college student at Vassar, snuck into a screen test session in New York City that was looking for someone to play the role of Scarlett O'Hara in the upcoming Selznick film "Gone With The Wind." She waited until all of her competition had left for lunch and then went into the central office and announced that she was Scarlett O'Hara- sent by God. Well, Selznick Studio officials were so impressed with her that she eventually landed an official screen test for the role, which famously went to Vivian Leigh. Pendleton Hogan, who graduated from Roanoke College in 1929, led an interesting life filled with diverse interests and activities. He was a published novelist, world traveler, antiquarian, Hollywood film advisor, art collector, historian, architect, war veteran and, ultimately, philanthropist.

From the library of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Peter Taylor and his wife, the National Book Award-nominated poet Eleanor Ross Taylor. Inscribed to the Taylors by the author in the year of publication. Peter Taylor was a longtime faculty member at the University.

Softcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Second edition. Octavo. 57pp. Stapled illustrated wrappers. Pendleton Hogan's own copy marked: "Second Edition 1992. My Copy" on front wrap, with substantial revisions both written in the text in pencil, and with handwritten notes paperclipped into the book. Also laid in are several publicity flyers for the book, clippings and photocopies of articles about the book, including one in an envelope addressed to Hogan. Hogan was a Virginia-born novelist and historian.
