Popular 19th century account of South Carolina Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion which was first published in 1809 but, with Weems' reputation as a mythopoeist, should be perused with some skepticism and, in that regard, bibliographer Wright Howes (U.S.IANA #H650) commented "General Horry furnished the facts, Parson Weems the rhetoric; so much of it that Horry became indignant and disclaimed all connection with the book.".
