Maurice Sendak (illustrator). Scarce science book most notable as Maurice Sendak's first illustrated book. Dr. Eidinoff, who was part of the Atomic Bomb Project at Columbia University and the University of Chicago, teamed up with Hyman Ruchlis, a high school science teacher to write this book. Ruchlis had a student, Maurice Sendak, who was talented in drawing, so he asked Sendak if he would like to provide the illustrations for the book. Sendak accepted and was paid $100 for his contribution. The book is profuse with illustrations on nearly every page and was published when he was only 19. Hardback, no dust jacket. Light to mild rubbing on the spine ends, spine, and corners; bottom two corners are bumped. Spine is tight; hinges are intact. Pages are clean. No writing inside. No funky odors. And, of course, so many Maurice Sendak illustrations! A lovely map of his early talent. Good to very good condition. L4.
