Red Cloth Gilt. Zustand: Very Good. Pp. 240. Singed & dated at top margin of title page: "P. Redmond (?) Barry." Neat annotations & amendments in re ink in a neat hand suggest that this copy was used to revise and update the standing orders of the regiment. The printed name of the Field Marshal who had revised and approved the amendments was Earl Roberts. The amended name of his successor in pen was French. So in a sense this book contains the standing orders of two field marshals. The original in printed form and the revised one in neat red ink overlaid on the printed version. So one can see the differences between the demands of the teo F.M's. Rare.

Signiert
This collection comprises: (1) A signed agreement between Michael Cahill of Ballyconra House, Co. Kilkenny & James Phelan of Graiguemane, Co. Tipperary dated 4th November 1871 regarding lands of 22 acres, 2 roods & 10 perches situated in Shillelagh Barony, Co. Kilkenny (folded & partially torn along folds with no loss of text); (2) 9 other items including correspondence between a Kilkenny Solicitors & the British Legion & the British Ministry for Pensions 1935- 38 regarding Phelan's poor medical condition & a request for additional disability support. The Ministry refuseD to accept that his condition was due, or in any way related to the impact of his role in the Irish Guards in The Great War; among the documents are official stamped character & discharge certificates. Ironically he was discharged in 1919 as being no longer physically fit for war service; there is a reference from a chemist in Johnstown who knew Phelan for 25 years affirming that his disease has been exacerbated and caused by his war service. One wonders as to how the British Ministry came to the conclusion that tere was no connection between his condition & his war service. How many other Irish soldiers compared to British ones suffered a similar fate. (3) The final items include a letter from Julia Phelan claiming that Doheny has lied dated 16th May 1910 & a rough hand drawn map of lands pertaining to a case of Doherty v Phelan. Primary documents which may well provide a basis for further research.
