Amelang (n. 1952) es Profesor de Historia Moderna en la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Es autor de varios estudios de historia social y cultural de la Edad Moderna, entre ellos La formación de una clase dirigente: Barcelona, 1490-1714 (Barcelona, 1986) y las ediciones en inglés y en catalán (con Xavier Torres) del Dietario de un año de peste: Barcelona, 1651 de Miquel Parets (Vic, 1989).
