Diplomat Lloyd Thomson (1919-2015) was the first Australian Ambassador to the Holy See (Vatican) (1973-74, 1980-83), & resident outside Italy at other Australian diplomatic posts, including the Netherlands (The Hague), Ireland (Dublin), the UN in Switzerland (Geneva), plus Head of Mission with the Department of Foreign Affairs, along with other diplomatic posts. Lloyd Thomson was also involved in the theatre as a playwright, actor & producer, notably co-writing the Australian musical The Sentimental Bloke (to the poetry of C.J. Dennis). Printed in Nairobi. The Aero Club of Kenya was founded on July 31, 1927. Its founding members included 24 pilots and aviation enthusiasts, who stated that the club's objectives were "To promote, encourage and regulate aeronautics in Kenya, and to provide information and advice about aviation to all authorities and persons as might be required." The Club's initial location was the Dagoretti airstrip. In March 1928 the Club's first president Lieutenant Colonel A.C.E. Marsh renamed the Club to the Aero Club of East Africa. This book was issued to mark the Club's Jubilee Year in 1977, and includes articles on the formation of the Club, its history and general aviation in East Africa. The book is staple-bound in the original blue and gold card covers. It is in very good condition with shelf wear to the covers and some wear down the spine. There is some creasing across the corners of the covers. The contents are secure and clean with no inscription.
