Diese Studie stellt die überarbeitete Fassung einer früheren Energieanalyse des Autors dar, die unter dem Titel "Tussen kernenergie en kolen, een analyse" 1980 in den Nederlanden erschien. Auch nach dem Beinahe-GAU 2006 in einem schwedischen Kraftwerk, der Serie von Pannen und Störfällen in den AKW s Brunsbüttel und Krümmel, der Vertuschungs- und Verharmlosungspolitik durch die Betreiber wie den Stromkonzern Vattenfall sowie angesichts der von Sicherheitspolitikern sonst gerne und häufig beschworenen wachsenden Gefahr terroristischer Angriffe halten viele Politiker an einem Ausbau der Atomenergie fest. Dies wird oft auch mit dem Hinweis auf die Bekämpfung des Klimawandels begründet. Dabei wusste schon Robert Jungk, dass der "Atomstaat" aufgrund der mannigfachen Gefahren der Nutzung von Atomenergie nur ein totalitärer Staat sein kann. Daher ist Atomenergie unserer Ansicht nach keine Energiealternative. Um Informationen über diese Zusammenhänge und Probleme publik zu machen, haben wir die Rubriken "Krieg & Frieden" und "Atomenergie" ausgebaut. Nicht nur die Gefährdung des Welt durch weitere Atommächte wie Iran oder Nordkorea, sondern auch der angestrebte Ausbau der "zivilen" Atomenergie in etlichen Ländern - etikettiert auch als Klimaschutz-Maßnahme - machen den Handlungsbedarf deutlich. Parts I, IIA & IIB give an elaborate general historical picture, by province, of every town where luxury bindings were manufactured in the bookbinders' workshops and binderies. Part III is a catalogue of approximately 2000 relevant bindings in the Koninklijke Bibliotheek and the Museum Meermanno-Westreenianum, and about 1500 bindings in other collections. Nearly 10,000 stamps on the bindings are represented with detailed rubbing. In addition to the 10,000 rubbings, there are numerous black-and-white illustrations and a color section in each volume.
