Lors des États généraux de 1614, Jean Savaron (1566-1622), en tant que député au Tiers état d'Auvergne, brilla par son érudition et son éloquence. Porte-parole de son ordre, il attira l'attention sur la souffrance du peuple, demandant pour la soulager une diminution des pensions dont bénéficiaient la noblesse. Il s'opposa également aux théories ultramontaines du clergé en prônant l'absolutisme, et contribua ainsi à poser les bases de la « monarchie de droit divin » qui caractérisera le règne de Louis XIV. La plupart des écrits regroupés dans ce recueil reprennent cet aspect bien connu de son oeuvre. Mais l'on découvre également un curieux opuscule, le Traitté contre les masques (1608), où Savaron qualifie masques et déguisements de diableries, avançant qu'en latin comme en grec, « masque » et « démon » ont une étymologie commune. Le recueil comporte également un texte en défense de l'absolutisme signé par Théophile Dujay, pseudonyme de Jérôme Bignon (1589-1656), et un examen du Traicté de la souveraineté du roy de Savaron signé par Jean Le Coq et généralement attribué à Jean-Paul Le jau. Petits manques au dos et manque à la coiffe inférieure, un manque sur le plat supérieur et un sur celui inférieur, manque à la première garde entrainant la perte du partie d'une liste manuscrite des pièces présentes dans le recueil, très petites mouillures marginales, galeries de vers marginales çà et là entrainant la perte de quelques lettres ou parties de lettres dans quelques manchettes de la Chronologie des Estats généraux, quelques feuillets légèrement brunis.

Manuscrit qui n'a jamais été publié d'un rapport établi par Jérôme Bignon, intendant de la Généralité d'Artois à la suite de la demande faite dans toutes les provinces de France à la fin du XVIIe siècle, par…le Duc de Beauvillier, pour l'instruction de son élève le Duc de Bourgogne, petit-fils de Louis XIV. L'enquête se déroula de 1697 à 1700 et avait pour but de présenter un tableau exact du royaume. Ce mémoire circulait sous forme manuscrite et rares sont les exemplaires qui nous sont parvenus. Cet important document fournit sur cette province à l'époque de Louis XIV un tableau des plus complets : histoire, description géographique, grands chemins, nombre et état des ports, forêts, agriculture, manufacture, naturel et caractères des habitants. "L'activité, l'industrie, l'ardeur et le savoir faire sont des caractères assez rares dans cette province, mais il y a peu où l'on trouve aussi ordinairement plus de bonne foi, d'honneur et de probité." A la fin on trouve le nombre des personnes pour toutes les villes et villages d'Artois. Jérôme Bignon (1658-1725) a été intendant de l'Artois et de la Picardie de 1694 à 1708. Table des chapitres en début de volume. Exemplaire de Marguerite-Delphine de Valbelle de Tourves, (1705-1784) avec ses armes dorées sur les plats, aux devises "Vertu et Fortune" et "Fidelis et audax". (Olivier 1740). La famille de Valbelle était l'une des plus importantes de Provence. Elle a compté des officiers, des présidents et conseillers au parlement d'Aix, trois évêques de Saint-Omer, un lieutenant du roi en Provence. Il est probable que ce manuscrit a été copié à la demande de Louis-Alphonde de Valbelle, évêque de Saint-Omer de 1684 jusqu'à sa mort en 1708. Petites restaurations à la reliure.
