Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Masteroff, Joe (book); John Kander (music); Fred Ebb (lyrics); Christopher Isherwood (novel). CABARET. New York: Random House, (1967). First Edition, so stated. A Fine copy in a Near Fine priced ($4.95) original dust jacket (touch of spine fade else as new). INSCRIBED BY JOE MASTEROFF in 1985: "To Clive, without whom Cabaret could not have happened!" INSCRIBED BY FRED EBB in 2004: "With every good wish, and a warm hands across the sea greeting." INSCRIBED BY JOHN KANDER: "To Clive, all the best and congratulations on whatever Joe was referring to." Kander punctuates his inscription with a handwritten bar of music from the opening song "Willkommen." From the collection of Clive Hirschhorn, who for decades was the film and theater critic for the London Sunday Express. Adapted into the 1972 film directed by Bob Fosse and starring Liza Minnelli which won eight Academy Awards. Mention must also be made of Cabaret's importance as a musical film which wildly entertained while addressing Nazism, corruption, sexual ambiguity, cynicism, dreams that don't come true, antisemitism and anti-fascism. For all these reasons, CABARET is generally considered a brilliant unicorn of theatrical genius. This is surely the ideal copy of the scarce (and rarely seen inscribed) first edition of CABARET.
