The American Philatelist is the oldest continuously published philatelic journal in the world, the first issue having appeared in January 1887. The magazine is published monthly for members of the American Philatelic Society. It has the appearance of a standard glossy color magazine, typically running about 100 pages per issue. As the house organ, there are monthly departments covering American Philatelic Society news and activities, a president's column, and other articles specific to the Society itself. The core of the magazine consists of 5-10 articles on subjects related to philately. All of its articles feature color illustrations, graphs and charts. This issue contains the following articles: "The Valuation of Stamps for Charitable Contributions" by Lowell J. Meyers; "Bank by Mail" (Vernal, Utah 1919 costructed with supplies delivered by the USPO) by Les Whall; "The Lamp Beside the Golden Door" (Statue of Liberty on Postage Stamps) by S. S. Kahn; "Down the Drain Went $3,900 Worth of First Day Covers" (5-cent Theodore Roosevelt FDC received with the wrong date of cancellation) by George Flatow; "Clairborne, A. T. - 1818 to 1978" (postmaster handstamp used at Claireborne, Alabama June 1818) by D. Edward Starnes, Jr.; "It Works: London Post Office Railway" by Jean L. Tomlinson; "RWs, Move Over" (Australian hunting license stamps) by G. M. Abrams; "Unofficial U. S. First Day Covers: What is the Attraction?" by Joseph J. Jiran, Jr.; "Can a Precancel Be Tied to the Cover?" by L. E. Lebo; "Loaded with Political, Personal Drama" (stamped cover from Estonia, 1920) by Adolph Lell; "May I Have That Cover" (Practical joke created space cover) by Carlos A. Altgelt; "British Gutter Pairs Becoming Popular" by H. A. Kottcamp, Jr.; "Gutzon Borglum: Gigantic in Minature" by A. Sand Pederen; "The Man Without a Party" (John Tyler 1938 10-cent stamp) by David K. Lindo. Please check the images with this listing for the complete Table of Contents of articles in this issue.
