Soft cover. Zustand: Very Good. Wright, Judith. The generations of men / illustrated by Alison Forbes. Melbourne: Oxford University Press, 1979 reprint. Paperback, VG. Covers sunned to spine and edges. Binding strong and tight. Frontispiece b/w illustration. vii, 233pp., b/w illustrations. Contents clean and bright. Judith Arund…ell Wright (31 May 1915 25 June 2000) was an Australian poet, environmentalist and campaigner for Aboriginal land rights. 'The Generations of Men' is the pioneering story of her ancestors. The names, dates and events are factual and are based on diaries, letters and personal reminiscences. Wright has taken this factual material and with her poet's imagination turned it into a reconstruction of a past era; people, places and even moods. This is a beautifully written family history that documents not only the settling of Wright's own family into New South Wales' last century, but also the life of a nation, as Australia was colonized by 'generations of men' unsuited in many ways to the historical and geographical context of their new environment. RightWayUp Books aims to provide accurate and detailed descriptions. All images are of the actual book for sale - no stock images are ever used. Thank you for looking at this listing. Inside front cover first page (before title page) is missing. Dust jacket is covered by plastic. Map and B&W Illustrations throughout and B&W Frontispiece. "My… grandfather, Albert Andrew Wright, and my grandmother, then Charlotte May Mackenzie, were born in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales, in the comparatively early years of settlement there - the first in 1840, the second in 1855. .I have tried to sketch in, as accurately as I can, this background of their personal story - for instance, the great and almost unchronicled pastoral migrations in which men and cattle spread gradually from the coastal settlements, northward and westward over the inland grazing country, followed by the bullock- and horse-teams of the waggons that brought supplies." First Published 1959. Alison Forbes (illustrator).

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good. 1st Edition. First published in 1959, this is a second impression of 1960. Some edge wear, chipping, creased closed tears and small loss to top and bottom of largely olive green jacket and spine, 1" loss to top of spine, corners rubbed and bruised, some slight yel…lowing to page block, price clipped, small Australian bookseller's label to bottom front pastedown, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy for its age. 222pp, illustrated. 'The Generations of Men' is the pioneering story of the ancestors of Australia's best known poet and environmentalist Judith Wright (1915-2000). The names, dates and events are factual and are based on diaries, letters and personal reminiscences. Wright has taken this factual material and with her poet's imagination turned it into a reconstruction of a past era, people, places and even moods. This is a beautifully written family history that documents not only the settling of Wright's own family into New South Wales in the last century, but also the life of a nation, as Australia was colonized by 'generations of men' unsuited in many ways to the historical and geographical context of their new environment. Judith Wright's elegant chronicle is fascinating both as a historical document and a personal meditation. Judith Arundell Wright was an Australian poet, environmentalist and campaigner for Aboriginal land rights. She was a recipient of the Christopher Brennan Award for lifetime achievement in poetry. A very scarce book in this early impression. Jacket and illustrations by Alison Forbes (illustrator).
