Buch Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. VG- Red gilt-stamped cloth boards. 8vo. [vi] 254 pp. Illus.; diagrams; photos. All three gatefold schematics of early machine gun models are present (though one has a tape repair): the Benet-Mercie, the Lewis Automatic, and the Colt Automatic. Another chapter is devoted to the Vickers Automatic. Previous owner's name in pencil on fep; otherwise no markings on pages. Two areas of dimpling to front cover; fading to spine. Published during WWI, this is the first machine gun manual commissioned by the U.S. army and coincided with the establishment of several "Machine Gun Schools of Instruction." Early machine gun models are treated in exhausting detail. Part III by Harry J. Maloney treats machine gun and trench warfare tactics not only in WWI Europe, but in other military contexts: the Russo-Japanese War, the Battle of Gallipoli, and the Boer War. Lead author Julian Hatcher went on to become a noted firearms expert, wrote several more books, and served as the Technical Editor of the American Rifle magazine. Hatcher also pioneered forensic identification of firearms and ammunition, and his technical expertise and interests are apparent in the present volume. Ships fast with tracking.
