This book is an account of Dr Junod's experiences between 1935 and 1945 on missions which took him first to Abyssinia and air raids with mustard gas bombs, then to Spain, Poland, Germany and lastly to Japan, where he was one of the first foreign doctors to observe the horrific effects of the atom bomb dropped on Hiroshima. Through Dr Junod's narrative, the reader discovers the difficult and sometimes dangerous, but always fascinating, work of an International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegate. The book has been read, but is in good condition for its age. Some bumps and creases are evident on the boards e.g. scuff marks, but no holes or tears. Binding has minimal wear. Spine is slightly worn. The pages are undamaged but may have some slight creasing but this is negligible. The interior is sunned and there is some foxing to some pages. There is an owner inscription.

Auf dem Vorsatz handschriftliche Widmung der Witwe Ursula Robert-Rusche (1916-2003): "A mon cher Oncle Szu (?) en souvenir de Charlot. Noël 1961 de votre Ursula". Nach dem Selbstmord ihres Mannes bemühte sie sich sehr um die Pflege des künstlerischen Nachlasses. Die Keramikerin und Bildhauerin verband eine enge Freundschaft mit Ernst Jünger, der sie in seinem literarischen Werk mehrfach erwähnt (s. Wimbauer, Personenregister (2003), S. 257). Von der Freundschaft zeugen ebenfalls die mehr als 100 Briefe im Nachlass Jüngers im DLA Marbach. Dem Weihnachtsgeschenk an ihren Onkel hat sie zwei nicht signierte originale Skizzenblätter (Tusche, Bleistift, DIN A4 bzw. DIN A5) mit 3 Aktdarstellungen von Charles Robert beigelegt. - Vorsätze etwas stockfleckig.
