Il retient pourtant notre attention à plus d'un titre. Des explorateurs de la grande expédition allemande de 1860, v. Beurmann est en effet celui qui a approché au plus près le but de cette mission: atteindre le Ouadaï et recueillir des informations sur Vogel, explorateur dont on était sans nouvelles depuis plusieurs années [.] Ce qui fait l'intérêt majeur de cette aventure, c'est la situation des régions traversées. Sa première expérience africaine, v. Beurmann la fit en Nubie et au Soudan. On peut regretter que son journal de route ne livre que peu de renseignements, hors les indications d'itinéraires [.] A vrai dire, v. Beurmann considérait ce voyage comme un premier sondage qui servirait à des études ultérieures, plus approfondies [.] Par contre, il effctue de véritables explorations au cours de son deuxième séjour africain.
