The SLI then fought Communist jungle insurgency in the Malayan Emergency and was mobilised to take part in the abortive Suez operation of 1956. The final chapter in the SLIâs story is its amalgamation with the equally distinguished West Country regiment, the Duke of Cornwallâs Light Infantry.
