A very good copy of this classic work, with 28 full page black and white plates by the painter and illustrator, Charles Atamian. Spine in dark blue morocco with gilt decoration and raised bands, board marbled and with marbled endpapers. Spine is showing wear to bands, joints and top and bottom where there is slight pulling. Boards showing slight wear to edges. It has 2 title pages (the first with red lettering) and a preface by Marcel Prevost. First title page and preliminaries are browned but the rest of the contents are in very good condition.

The seventh and final volume of Antoine François Prévost's novel series the Memoirs and Adventures of a Man of Quality. Published in French. Set in France and Louisiana in the early eighteenth century, the novel follows the Chevalier des Grieux and his lover Manon Lescaut. Controversial for its time, the work was banned upon publication, yet this did not stop pirated editions spreading the works popularity. Undated. Dated using WorldCat from a copy held at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. In a red quarter calf binding over hard boards. Externally, smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards and the spine. There is a two-inch tear in the calf near the head at both the front and rear joints. Internally, generally firmly bound. Aside from the occasional spot to the front and rear of the volume, pages are bright and clean. Good. book.
