Su tragedia no es otra cosa, empero, que la de todos los berlineses. Por eso, en su libro lo individual se confunde con lo colectivo. El mal de uno fué el de todos. Lali Horstmann se revela en esta obra como una escritora de grandes condiciones. El relato es atrayente y el estilo es de extrema sencillez, pero puro, equilibrado en las partes y armonioso en el conjunto. Sus frases, un tanto desnudas y desprovistas de palabras innecesarias, llevan el inconfundible sello que surge de la verdad y de la realidad, pues reales fueron la desesperación, la destrucción, el hambre, la corrupción, la barbarie, el malestar, que ella muestra en cuadros muy obscuros, ciertamente, pero muy bien trazados, con verdadera mano de experta literaria.
