In den Warenkorb8vo. [2], ix, [1], 575, [1] pp. Title in red & black, photo frontisp., 27 plates, 229 text woodcut engravings & photo illustrations. Embossed & illustrated blue-green publisher's cloth, gilt illust. of honeycomb on front cover, beehive on spine w/ swarming bees (very minor shelfwear, slight rubbing & very slight bumping to corners), still VG bright copy. Substantially revised and enlarged 20th Century Edition, of this apiary classic which not only presented Langstroth's invention of honeybee hives, but also a number of innovations and changes by Dadant (1817-1902) which included adapting the Quinby size frames to the Langstroth hive system. Filled with additional illustrations, and revisions from Langstroth himself who had commissioned Dadant to carry out the work when his health failed in the 1880's, this French-American quickly established his text as a necessity for aspiring beekeepers. Langstroth (1810-1895) fabricated the hives for sale with Henry Bourquin, a local cabinetmaker and beekeeper, and although he secured a patent in 1852 (Patent No. 9300), other beekeepers quickly adopted his designs, and he spent many years unsuccessfully defending the patent. Press (2020), Dadant System of Beekeeping, 1920.
