A tight copy but the spine has a crease about in the center which shows as a hinge crack in the interior. No loose pages however. It is paged by section so I am not sure how many total pages there are. It is almost exactly an inch thick and heavy! The author is a noted Canadian Military man with much expertise. Part 2 of Volume 5 in this beautifully produced series, containing six Victorian Children's classics: Eric; or, Little by Little (Frederic Farrar); The Rival Kings (Annie Keary); Countess Kate (Charlotte Yonge); Jessica's First Prayer ("Hesba Stretton"); Castle Blair (Flora L. Shaw); and Jackanapes (Juliana Horatia Ewing). This carefully culled selection of 19th century children's books, from the immense number that were produced in that era, reflect some of the best books available, including reproductions of many original (black and white) illustrations by the superb artists of the period. This is a heavy book and would need extra postage outside the UK.

Hardback Book itself is in Very Good Plus condition with a tight binding and clean crisp pages. Inside text actually appears to be Unused and Unread! The back few pages have bent bottom tips to those pages, but the pages are complete. On the first end page there is a short inscription neatly written at the top of the page that says, "Edward Romine Christmas Aunt Avis"- but again I do not believe that "Edward" ever read this book or "Aunt Avis"! There is also a scuff mark on this page in the upper right hand corner where it appears a price sticker was removed. No other writing or markings inside or outside of the book. Outside cloth covers are very nice to include the outside corners and edges! Dust Jacket is in Very Good Minus condition with some edge chipping primarily to the outside spine. Also there is a small missing piece out of the top edge of the back cover. Dust Jacket is NOT price clipped (195/195) and is now covered by a new clear mylar cover. Book has come from a private collection. This is a less common title in the Landmark series. Landmark Books and World Landmark Books are accurate, in-depth stories for young people in the 9-15 year old range. These living histories were written by award-winning authors or by men and women who experienced the events first hand. Written during the 1950's and 1960's and illustrated either with two-color drawings or clear photographs, the books are informative, enjoyable, and well worth reading and collecting.
