Illustrated with color frontispiece (reproduction or portrait of Mrs. Jacob Franks (Bilhah Abigail Levy). 15 pages of black & white illustrations plus fold out genealogy of the Levy family and fold-out map of area damaged by the March 1748 fire that started in Exchange Alley of the Cornhill neighborhood in London. The letters of Abigail Franks to her son Naphtali may represent the earliest written by a Jewish woman of colonial New York. She and her family moved in the highest spheres of New York society, friends and neighbors of the Livingstons, Bayards, Cuylers and Delanceys.
